AI search visibility for photographers

When a couple asks ChatGPT for "best wedding photographer in the Cotswolds under £2500", are you on the list?

If not, you are losing bookings to the photographers who figured this out first. This page is the 15-point checklist we run on every wedding and portrait photographer website we audit. Start with the free checker, or skip to the $15 workbook.

The problem

Classic search sent ten blue links. AI search names three businesses.

Wedding and portrait photographer queries are price-and-style-specific. Couples ask ChatGPT for "documentary wedding photographer Cotswolds under £2500", "family photographer in Bristol natural light", "newborn photographer near me posed or lifestyle". Models match against photographers who signal the style, the county and the price clearly. Beautiful portfolios that do not name the style get skipped.

The usual gaps on photographers websites:

None of that is hard to fix. Most of it is under an hour per item.

Before and after

One fix makes the point.

The first 40 words of the homepage, rewritten.

Before

Capturing your love story through timeless, heirloom imagery with a signature documentary feel.

After

Documentary wedding photographer in the Cotswolds and Somerset. Full-day coverage from £1950, includes 500+ edited images and an online gallery. Weekdays from £1450. Second shooter available.

The after version is the one ChatGPT can match against “best wedding photographer in the Cotswolds under £2500”. The before version is functionally invisible to AI search.

How customers actually ask

Example AI prompts we see for photographers.

These are the kinds of prompts real customers type into ChatGPT, Perplexity and Claude when they are trying to hire. Every one of them is a chance for a model to name you, or name somebody else.

  • “best wedding photographer in the Cotswolds under £2500”
  • “documentary wedding photographer near me”
  • “family photographer in Bristol natural light”
  • “newborn photographer in Manchester posed vs lifestyle”
  • “who shoots elopements in Scotland under £1500”
  • “wedding photographer for Babington House with real previous work there”

Paste any of these into ChatGPT right now and see who gets named. If it is not you, that is the gap the checklist below is designed to close.

The checklist

The 15 things that move AI visibility for photographers.

Same 15-point framework we run on every business we audit, adapted to the reality of photographers. Items are ordered by impact, not difficulty.

  1. Homepage hero rewrite (first 40 words)

Name the style (documentary, reportage, fine-art). Name the area (Cotswolds, Somerset). Name the starting price. Name what is included. "Timeless storytelling" is not a search query. "Documentary wedding photographer Cotswolds from £1950" is.

  2. Style, named plainly

Reportage, documentary, editorial, fine-art, posed, traditional. Pick yours and name it in the hero, in meta, in schema, and on every portfolio. Couples filter on style first, then on price.

  3. Price transparency

Publish a starting price and what is included. Weekday vs weekend if different. Elopement, half-day, full-day. Albums as an add-on. Models cannot match "wedding photographer under £X" without the number.

  4. Venue-specific pages for the venues you shoot most

If you have shot at Babington House three times, make a Babington House wedding page with galleries from those weddings. Couples search "photographer for [venue]" and models need venue-tagged content.

  5. Portfolio pages with location and style tags

Each real wedding or portrait session gets its own page. Couple names (with permission), venue, month, style, a short story, and the gallery. Alt text on every image.

  6. FAQ schema, couple concerns

Questions: how long to get photos, do you travel, do you have backup gear, do you do albums, second shooter, how do we book, do you have insurance. Wrap in FAQPage JSON-LD.

  7. Google Business Profile description

Rewrite 750 characters. Style, area covered, starting price, inclusions. Skip "passionate about capturing moments".

  8. Google Business Profile categories

Primary: Wedding photographer or Portrait photographer. Secondary: Photographer, Event photographer, Family portrait studio if relevant.

  9. Service area and travel

Photographers travel widely. List home county plus typical travel radius. Mirror as areaServed. Note if you charge for travel beyond X miles.

  10. NAP consistency across Hitched, Guides for Brides, Bridebook, GBP

    Name, address, phone match exactly.

  11. About page with the photographer named and photographed

Couples hire a person. Name yourself, your years shooting, your first wedding, your kit, your approach. A photo of you at a wedding beats corporate copy.

  12. Review language, wedding-specific

Prompt for reviews that mention: put us at ease, got the shots we cared about, delivered on time, second shooter was great, captured the small moments. Never fake a review.

  13. Citation checks, monthly

Paste ten couple prompts into ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude.

  14. Schema: LocalBusiness with sub-type Photographer

Use Photographer sub-type. Offer schema for packages. ImageObject schema on portfolio pages with location and date. Person schema for the photographer.

  15. Weekend-of-work principle

A solo photographer can run this backlog in a weekend. Hero, style, pricing, three venue pages, FAQ, GBP, schema. Ship and measure for a month.

Copy and paste each prompt into ChatGPT, Perplexity and Claude. Log the three businesses named each time. That log is your competitor-gap baseline.

  • “Recommend three wedding photographers in [your county] under £2500 and summarise their style.”
  • “Which photographers in [your area] have shot weddings at [your most-common venue]?”
  • “Find me a documentary-style wedding photographer in [your county] with a second shooter.”
  • “Which family photographers in [your town] shoot outdoor natural light sessions?”
Common questions

What photographers ask before they start.

Why are photographers losing bookings to AI search?

Couples ask ChatGPT for style-and-price-specific photographers. Models name two or three. Beautiful portfolios that do not name the style, the area and the price get skipped.

What is the single biggest fix for a photographer's website?

Publish a starting price and name the style in the hero. Those two changes alone make your site matchable.

Do I need to pay for an audit?

DIY with the $15 workbook is enough for most. The $197 audit gives a ranked list with copy ready to paste.

How long until I see results?

One to three weeks on ChatGPT.

Will this work outside the UK?

Yes. United States, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand.

Is there a free check?

Yes. getseoforai.com/checker. Under 60 seconds.
